Referrals

Referrals for your child last for two years and TRICARE East can only accept referrals from approved diagnosing providers and specialists who diagnose ASD.

You will receive a notification when it is time to get a new referral. Your provider can submit a referral up to six months before it is due.

Your child’s referrals remain valid if you:

• Change providers
• Seek a second opinion
• Move within or outside the TRICARE East Region

It’s important for your provider to submit referrals online. If any information is missing, it may delay care or cause issues with claims.

TRICARE East accepts referrals from these approved diagnosing providers and specialists:

• PCM
• Pediatricians
• Family Medicine Physicians
• Pediatric or Family Nurse Practitioners
• Developmental Pediatricians (Board-Certified or Board-Eligible)
• Neurodevelopmental Pediatricians (Board-Certified)
• Child Neurologists
• Child Psychiatrists
• Clinical Psychologists (Doctoral-level and licensed)
• Doctor of Nursing Practice who are board-certified and credentialed as pediatric or a family NP
• Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioners specialized in Family or Child/Adolescent Care
• Child Nurse Specialists in Adolescent Psychiatric and Mental Health
