Problems With Your TRICARE Coverage
Start with your TRICARE contractor. Your contractor can answer questions and help resolve issues related to your TRICARE coverage, such as:
- Your claim wasn’t processed, was paid incorrectly, was denied, or you don’t understand what you owe.
- Your other health insurance status is incorrect.
- You’re having trouble getting a referral approved.
- You need to change the provider on your referral.
- You were disenrolled from your plan due to nonpayment.
- You can’t find a network provider.
- You want to change your primary care manager.
- You received a collection notice due to an unpaid TRICARE claim.

Problems With a Prescription or Pharmacy
If you’re having problems with your TRICARE prescription benefit, such as:
- Your claim was paid incorrectly or you don’t understand what you owe.
- Your prescription was denied.
- Your other health insurance status is incorrect.
- Your prescription prior authorization was denied.
- Your prescription wasn’t delivered.
- You need to get a refill of a prescription while you’re traveling.

Problems With Care at a Military Hospital or Clinic
If you have a problem with care or service at a military hospital or clinic, such as you’re:
- Concerned about how you or a family member was treated by staff
- Concerned about the quality of care or service you received
- Having difficulty getting an appointment
- Having problems communicating with your healthcare team about your care
Contact the patient advocate at your military hospital or clinic. They can work with you and the facility to help address your concern. To find a patient advocate:
- Find your military hospital or clinic and go to the Patient Resources section of the facility's website, or
- Use the Military Health System Customer Service Directory.
Disagree with a TRICARE decision?
You can file an appeal when you don’t agree with a decision made about your benefit. Appealable issues include denied authorizations and denied payments.
Need to file a grievance?
If you’re concerned about the quality of care or timeliness of care or service you received from a TRICARE provider or contractor, you may file a grievance.

If you already contacted your TRICARE contractor and still need help resolving your issue, a Beneficiary Counseling and Assistance Coordinator may be able to help. BCACs can help you understand your TRICARE plan and how your benefit works. They can help with issues related to:
- Enrollment
- Referrals and pre-authorizations
- Claims processing delays
- Covered services
- The Global Nurse Advice Line
- Getting healthcare services outside the military hospital or clinic
