Service Locations

Depending on clinical needs, your child’s provider can provide ABA services in various settings. ABA services must target core ASD symptoms and comply with ACD policy.

Acceptable Service Settings

Home

  • Location: This is the beneficiary’s residence.
  • Approval: All ABA services must be pre-approved prior to services occurring.
  • Services: Services can be conducted by all ABA provider types.
  • Restrictions: Travel to and from a beneficiary’s home is not reimbursable.

Center/Clinics

  • Location: The outpatient ABA center/clinic
  • Approval: All ABA services must be pre-approved prior to services occurring.
  • Services: Services can be conducted by all ABA provider types.
  • Restrictions: Travel to and from a center is not reimbursable.

Daycare

  • Location: A daycare center is a daycare center, child development center, or after-school program.
  • Approval: All daycare settings must be pre-approved prior to services occurring.
  • Services: Services can be conducted by all ABA provider types.
  • Restrictions:
    • Daycares are not pre-schools.
    • The daycare must not be connected to a school or educational environment.
    • ABA providers may not function as support aides or observers during care routines or activities (lunch, group activities, arts and crafts, etc.).

School

  • Location: A school is defined as a preschool, public school, private school, or home school.
  • Approval:
    • All school settings must be pre-approved prior to services occurring.
    • Submission of a current Individualized Education Program or equivalent is required.
    • ABA services must be provided outside of home-schooling hours.
    • ABA services in the school setting are for targeting specific behavior and is for a limited duration.
  • Services: Services must be administered by an ABA supervisor.
  • Restrictions:
    • A daycare center is not considered a school setting.
    • ABA services performed by Behavior Technicians or Assistant Behavior Analysts in a school setting are NOT allowed.
    • The ABA supervisor will not function as a support aide or observer during care routines or activities.
    • ABA services may not duplicate IEP services.
    • Academic or education goals are not allowed in any setting and should not be included within the Treatment Plan.

Community

  • Location: Any setting that is not a part of a home, clinic, office, virtual health, or school setting.
  • Approval:
    • All community settings must be pre-approved prior to services occurring.
    • Approval of a community setting is dependent upon goals identified in the TP.
  • Services: Services can be conducted by all ABA provider types and must be pre-approved.
  • Restrictions:
    • Parent training isn't allowed in community settings.
    • Supportive services aren’t allowed in community environments such as sporting events, camps, or doctor appointments.
    • Examples of community settings include but aren’t limited to: parks, restaurants, grocery stores, and community events.

Virtual Health

  • Approval: Only available for parent training after the first initial six months of ABA services
  • Services: Virtual health involves the use of secure video conferencing to provide active delivery of ABA services.
  • Restrictions: Audio only services aren’t allowed for 1:1 ABA services.
