Diabetes & Prediabetes
You have prediabetes if your body makes enough insulin but can’t utilize it effectively. Your blood sugar levels will be higher than normal, but lower than those with diabetes.
- Type 1 diabetes is when the body can’t make insulin.
- Type 2 diabetes is when the body doesn’t make or absorb enough insulin to maintain normal blood glucose levels.

- Lifestyle
Symptoms
- Increased thirst and urination
- Increased hunger
- Fatigue
- Blurred vision
- Numbness in hands or feed
- Sores that don’t heal
- Unexplained weight loss
Testing
The Plasma Glucose test or the A1C test to test for prediabetes and type 1.
Type 2 testing may include:
- Random plasma glucose test
- Glucose challenge test
- Oral glucose tolerance test
Talk with your primary care manager about any symptoms. You can ask them if you need a screening.
Managing Diabetes
Regularly checking your blood glucose, blood pressure and cholesterol levels are the first steps in managing diabetes. Being more active and having a meal plan are also part of controlling the condition.
