Beneficiaries Using TRICARE Reserve Select

If you’re eligible for Medicare Part A, you aren’t required to have Medicare Part B to purchase TRICARE Reserve Select.

Even though you aren’t required to have Medicare Part B, we strongly encourage you to enroll in Part B when you’re first eligible.

  • Although TRICARE treats you as an active duty family member while enrolled, Medicare doesn’t consider your sponsorThe term sponsor specifically refers to the active duty, retired or deceased service member whose military status entitles their dependents (spouse, children, etc.) to receive TRICARE health benefits. to be actively employed by the military.
  • If you don’t enroll in Part B when you’re first eligible, you may be required to pay the Medicare Part B late-enrollment penalty.
