Network and Non-Network Pharmacies

Do you need a prescription filled right away? Are you unable to get to a military pharmacy? You may be able to fill your prescription at a retail pharmacy.

There are two types of retail pharmacies:

  • TRICARE retail network pharmacies
  • Non-network pharmacies

Your out-of-pocket costs may depend on which type of pharmacy you use.

Note: In some cases, you may not be able to fill your prescription at a retail pharmacy:

Using Non-Network Pharmacies

At non-network pharmacies, you’ll have to pay full price for your prescription drugs up front. (This includes active duty service members.) You can file a claim for reimbursement. Reimbursements are subject to applicable deductibles, cost-shares, and copayments. All deductibles must be met before we can reimburse you.

  • Are you in the U.S. or U.S. territories? You should only visit a non-network pharmacy as your last option.
  • Most overseas retail pharmacies are non-network pharmacies.
