Survivors of Retired Service Members

If a sponsorThe term sponsor specifically refers to the active duty, retired or deceased service member whose military status entitles their dependents (spouse, children, etc.) to receive TRICARE health benefits. dies after retiring from active duty (including medical retirement), surviving family members remain eligible for TRICARE with the same health plan options and costs they had before their sponsor passed away.

Surviving spouses remain eligible for TRICARE unless they remarry. Children remain eligible until they age out or lose eligibility for TRICARE for other reasons.
