Over-the-Counter Drugs and Supplies

Typically, TRICARE doesn’t cover over-the-counter drugs, except for the following. Your usual TRICARE copayments or cost-shares may apply. 

Note: TRICARE doesn’t cover OTC drugs outside of the U.S. and U.S. territories.

OTC Drugs

TRICARE covers the following OTC drugs with a prescription from your doctor:

  • Cetirizine tablets
  • Fexofenadine tablets
  • Loratadine tablets
  • Tobacco cessation products covered by the tobacco cessation benefit
  • Doxylamine 25 mg
  • Norgestrel (Opill)

TRICARE covers the following OTC drugs without a prescription from your doctor:

  • Levonorgestrel (Plan B One-Step emergency contraceptive)
  • Naloxone nasal spray (Narcan)

OTC Supplies

TRICARE covers the following OTC supplies:

  • Insulin products
  • Certain blood glucose strips  
  • Urine glucose test strips
  • Blood and urine ketone/acetone test strips
  • Syringes and needles used for injectable medications
  • Lancets
  • Inhaler spacers
  • Diaphragms
