TRICARE covers the following when medically necessaryTo be medically necessary means it is appropriate, reasonable, and adequate for your condition.:

  • MRI with or without contrast media
  • Open MRI with or without contrast media
  • Breast MRI
  • Magnetic resonance angiography
  • Computerized tomography scans (CT scans)
  • Three-dimensional (3D) rendering
  • Helical (spiral) CT scans, with or without contrast enhancement
  • Chest X-rays
  • Diagnostic mammography to further define breast abnormalities or other problems
  • Portable X-ray services
  • Bone density studies for the diagnosis and monitoring of osteoporosis or osteopenia
  • Multislice CT angiogram
