Hippotherapy
Hippotherapy is an exercise program that offers a person with a disability a means of physical activity that aids in improving balance, posture, coordination, the development of a positive attitude and a sense of accomplishment through use of a horse and a physical or occupational therapist.
Hippotherapy is covered under the Extended Care Health Option for beneficiaries with a primary or secondary diagnosis of multiple sclerosis or cerebral palsy.
Hippotherapy services must be prescribed by a physician based on a determination that the patient will benefit from these non-medical services above and beyond what is provided under the basic TRICARE medical benefit.
This list of covered services isn’t all-inclusive. TRICARE covers services that are and considered proven. Some services have special rules or limits, and some services are excluded. Learn how a benefit becomes covered.
