Vision
Vision coverage may include an eye exam or other services to diagnose or treat the medical condition of the eye.
Eye exam coverage is different based on who you are, your health plan option and your age. In some cases, you may need a referral and/or pre-authorization.
Routine Eye Exams
You may be eligible for an eye exam, depending on who you are and why you need the exam.

- For retirees, it depends on the plan:
- If you have TRICARE Prime or TRICARE Young Adult Prime, you are covered for a Routine Eye ExamAn exam of your vision and the health of your eyes. every two years
- If you have USFHP, your coverage depends on your USFHP provider. Contact your provider to determine whether your exam is covered.
- If you have TRICARE Select, TRICARE Young Adult Select, or TRICARE For Life, routine eye exams are not covered.
- If you or your sponsor are in the National Guard or Reserves, your coverage depends on both your status and your plan. >>Learn more.
FEDVIP Vision
You may be eligible for vision coverage through the Federal Employees Dental and Vision Insurance Program (FEDVIP). If you’re eligible and want to enroll in a FEDVIP vision plan, you need to take action during a Qualifying Life Event (QLE) or during the next open season. >>Learn more.
Some military hospitals and clinics may offer vision procedures that aren't covered by TRICARE. Contact a military hospital or clinic near you to see what programs are offered.
