Does TRICARE cover an MRI?
TRICARE may cover some types of MRIs when medically necessaryTo be medically necessary means it is appropriate, reasonable, and adequate for your condition.. You may need a referral depending on your plan.
If you are enrolled in a TRICARE Prime option, US Family Health Plan, or purchased TRICARE Young Adult-Prime:
- You need a referral.
- You don’t need a referral for a breast MRI if you use a TRICARE network provider.
For all other TRICARE plans, you don’t need a referral.
