TRICARE covers midwife services provided by certain types of providers.
Description
Midwife services include prenatal care, labor and delivery assistance, and postpartum care you get from certain medical providers who specialize in pregnancy and childbirth. Midwife services aren’t the same as doula services.
Requirements
The provider must be one of the following:
- A Certified Nurse-Midwife certified by the American Midwifery Certification Board. (They must be state-licensed where required.)
- A registered nurse, if you have a physician’s referral and supervision
Costs
Your costs depend on your plan, your beneficiary category, and where you get care. Check your health plan costs to find what applies to you.
Exclusions
TRICARE doesn’t cover midwife services from these providers:
- Lay midwives
- Certified Professional Midwives
- Certified Midwives
