Blood Transfusion

TRICARE covers whole blood and blood component transfusions and services, including equipment, supplies, storage, administration, processing, typing and cross-matching.

TRICARE doesn't cover:

  • Blood typing for paternity tests
  • The collection, storage and testing of autologous (self-donated) blood
  • The transfusion of autologous (self-donated) blood in the absence of a TRICARE-covered surgical procedure
