What is TRICARE Select?
TRICARE Select is a health plan that has contracts with a network of doctors, hospitals, and other health care professionals to provide services at a lower rate. TRICARE Select is a Preferred Provider Organization plan. You must be TRICARE-eligible to enroll. To learn more, visit TRICARE Select.
Costs:
- You must pay an annual enrollment fee. The fee doesn’t apply if you’re an active duty family member.
- Your costs depend on who you are (for example, active duty family member, retiree), beneficiary group, and the type of care you get (for example, outpatient care).

Providers:
- You may see any TRICARE-authorized provider. To pay less, use network providers.
- You may get care at a military hospital or clinic if space is available.
Referrals and Authorizations:

- You need preauthorization for some procedures and treatments. For example, you may see a pain specialist without a referral, but you would still need approval for some pain treatments.
