Does TRICARE cover diabetic test strips?
Yes. FreeStyle Lite and Precision Xtra test strips (both made by Abbott Diabetes Care) are the only test strips you can get without prior authorization. To get any other test strips you need prior authorization, and you must prove you tried FreeStyle Lite and Precision Xtra test strips.
To get a prior authorization you need to:
- Search for the name of the strips on the TRICARE Formulary Search Tool
- Download and print the form for your strips.
- Give the form to your provider to complete and send to Express Scripts. Instructions are on the form. You don’t need to send multiple forms.
If Express Scripts approves your request, you’ll pay the non-formulary pharmacy copayment when you fill it at a network pharmacy or via home delivery.
