Does TRICARE cover mammograms?

Yes. TRICARE covers annual (every 12 months with a 30 day grace period) mammograms for:

  • All women age 40 or older
  • Women age 30 or older who are at a 15% or greater lifetime risk of developing breast cancer

You won’t pay copayments or cost-shares if you see a network provider.

If you’re enrolled in a TRICARE Prime option, US Family Health Plan, or purchased TRICARE Young Adult-Prime:

  • You need a referral to see a non-network provider.
  • You don’t need a referral if you go to a network provider

For all other TRICARE plans, you don’t need a referral.

Note: If you have TRICARE For Life coverage and live in the U.S. or a U.S. Territory, you must also follow Medicare’s rules.

TRICARE only covers 3-D mammograms (digital breast tomosynthesis) to further define breast abnormalities.
