Residential Substance Use Disorder Treatment

TRICARE covers residential substance use disorder rehabilitation treatment facilities. These centers help you with:

• Managing withdrawal symptoms (detoxification) 
• Rehabilitation from substance use disorder conditions

You may receive approval for residential substance use disorder care if you:

• Have a primary diagnosis of substance use disorder 
• Have symptoms or potential symptoms that are:
  • Severe enough to require inpatient care and physician management
  • Less severe, but require full time inpatient monitoring
  • Causing trouble functioning in several major life areas

You need to get pre-authorization.
