Radiation Therapy

TRICARE may cover radiation oncology in the following forms—when safe, effective, and comparable or superior to the standard of care—for certain indications:

  • Radiation therapy, including brachytherapy, fast neutron, hyperfractionated, and radioactive chromic phosphate synoviorthesis
  • Hyperthermia, except in the treatment of breast cancer
  • Gamma Knife radiosurgery/radiotherapy
  • Linear accelerator radiosurgery/radiotherapy
  • Proton beam radiosurgery/radiotherapy
  • Helium ion beam radiosurgery/radiotherapy
  • Frameless stereotaxy (neuronavigation)
  • Extracranial stereotactic radiosurgery/radiotherapy
  • High energy neutron radiation treatment
  • Selective internal radiation therapy
