TRICARE's vision coverage varies depending on who you are. Check the table below to see what you are covered for and where to go.

If you're a(n)...  You qualify for:  What you need to do: 

Active Duty Service Member (includes activatedCalled or ordered to active duty service for more than 30 days in a row. Guard/Reserve Members) 

Standard issue pair of frames and sunglasses plus one pair of glasses of your choice. 

TRICARE Prime:
Go to the Optometry clinic at the military hospital or clinic where you're enrolled.

TRICARE Prime Remote:
Order your glasses from the Navy Ophthalmic Support Training Activity Command

Non-Activated Guard/Reserve Member 

A pair of glasses. 

Your unit will order your glasses from the Navy Ophthalmic Support Training Activity Command

Retired Service Member 

A pair of glasses. 

Order your glasses from the Navy Ophthalmic Support Training Activity Command

Family Member (spouse, children, etc.) 

One set of glasses or contact lenses when needed for the treatment of specific eye conditions
  • Infantile glaucoma
  • Corneal or scleral lenses for treatment of keratoconus
  • Scleral lenses to retain moisture when normal tearing isn't present or is inadequate
  • Corneal or scleral lenses to reduce corneal irregularities other than astigmatism
  • Intraocular lenses, contact lenses, or glasses for loss of human lens function resulting from intraocular surgery, ocular injury or congenital absence. TRICARE only covers the standard fixed non-accommodating monofocal intraocular lenses
  • "Pinhole" glasses prescribed for use after surgery for detached retina

Get an appointment with your doctor to see if you qualify. 

TRICARE doesn’t cover:

  • Glasses or contact lenses for family members because of vision loss.
  • Adjustments, cleaning, and repairs for glasses.
  • Intraocular lenses for correcting astigmatism and presbyopia. This includes any adjustments, subsequent treatment, services or supplies needed.
