Concurrent Care

Hospice care and curative care  services aren’t typically used at the same time. In some cases, TRICARE may cover both hospice services and curative care at the same time. This is called concurrent care. 
Concurrent care provides support if you have a terminal illness. Concurrent care allows you to continue to get medically necessaryTo be medically necessary means it is appropriate, reasonable, and adequate for your condition. treatment for your illness while you get hospice care. This means that you can get the benefits of comfort care and still receive life-prolonging treatments.

To be eligible for concurrent care, you must be:
Under age 21
Diagnosed with a terminal illness with a life expectancy of six months or less
Referred to hospice by your provider
Concurrent care must be pre-authorized.
