Cesarean Section

TRICARE covers cesarean sections when medically necessaryTo be medically necessary means it is appropriate, reasonable, and adequate for your condition.. After a C-section, the mother and child’s stay in the hospital may not be restricted to less than 96 hours. The decision to discharge before the minimum length of stay (96) hours must be made by the attending physician and the mother.

TRICARE’s coverage of elective C-sections (those done at the request or convenience of the beneficiary) is limited to what would have been provided for a vaginal delivery, and the beneficiary will be responsible for any excess amount.
