TRICARE covers cesarean sections when medically necessaryTo be medically necessary means it is appropriate, reasonable, and adequate for your condition.. Following a cesarean section, the mother and child's stay in the hospital may not be restricted to less than 96 hours. The decision to discharge before the minimum length of stay (96) hours must be made by the attending physician and the mother.
TRICARE's coverage of elective cesarean sections (those done at the request or convenience of the beneficiary) is limited to what would have been provided for a vaginal delivery, and the beneficiary will be responsible for any excess amount.
This list of covered services is not all inclusive. TRICARE covers services that are medically necessary and considered proven. There are special rules or limits on certain services, and some services are excluded.
