How do I buy TRICARE Young Adult coverage?

 

If you qualify, you have 4 ways to buy TRICARE Young Adult (TYA) coverage:

1. Online
2. By phone
3. By fax
4. By mail

To buy TYA coverage, your record in the Defense Enrollment Eligibility Reporting System(DEERS) A database of information on uniformed services members (sponsors), U.S.-sponsored foreign military, DoD and uniformed services civilians, other personnel as directed by the DoD, and their family members. You need to register in DEERS to get TRICARE. (DEERS) must show you’re not eligible for regular TRICARE. For example, if you turn 21 on May 15, you can’t buy TYA coverage until May 16. Your DEERS record would still show you as TRICARE-eligible until 11:59 PM on May 15.

You have to make an initial 2-month premium payment. The amount you pay depends on the plan you choose (TYA-Prime Option or TYA-Select Option). You can pay by:

• personal check,
• cashier’s check,
• money order, or
• credit/debit card (for example, Visa/MasterCard).

You also have to tell the regional contractor how you want it to collect ongoing monthly premium payments.  You can set up either a Recurring Credit Card/Debit Card (RCC) (for example, Visa/MasterCard) payment or an Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT).
