My spouse will be turning 65 soon and will have TRICARE For Life coverage. I'm the sponsor and not 65. What happens to my coverage?
Nothing. You may stay in your current plan (TRICARE Prime, TRICARE Select, TRICARE Select Overseas, etc.) until you become Medicare-eligible.
Your spouse’s eligibility for Medicare is a Qualifying Life Event. This means you have 90 days after the status change to change your plan if you want. You can also change plans during TRICARE’s Open Season. Your enrollment fee will adjust to the single rate unless your children are a part of your plan. Call your TRICARE contractor to make sure your enrollment fee is correct.
