How do I know which beneficiary group I’m in?

The group you’re in depends on your sponsorThe term sponsor specifically refers to the active duty, retired or deceased service member whose military status entitles their dependents (spouse, children, etc.) to receive TRICARE health benefits.'s enlistment or commission date. If your sponsor enlisted or was commissioned:

• Before January 1, 2018, you and your sponsor are in Group A
• On or after January 1, 2018, you and your sponsor are in Group B

Group A and Group B have different enrollment fees and out-of-pocket costs. View costs on the Copayments & Cost-Shares page.

Note: If you're enrolled in TRICARE Reserve Select, TRICARE Retired Reserve, TRICARE Young Adult, or the Continued Health Care Benefit Plan, you follow Group B enrollment fees and cost-shares.
