What does transitional survivor status mean?
A spouse is a transitional survivor for 3 years from the date of death of the sponsor. Children are transitional survivors from the date of death of the sponsor until they age out or lose eligibility for other reasons. During transitional survivor status, you are covered as "active duty family members." Health plan options and costs don’t change. To learn more, visit the Survivors of Active Duty Service Members page.
