I have a child who is aging out of TRICARE. Is there an exception if my child is disabled?

There may be an exception if the:

  • Child can’t provide support on his or her own;
  • Child depends on the sponsorThe term sponsor specifically refers to the active duty, retired or deceased service member whose military status entitles their dependents (spouse, children, etc.) to receive TRICARE health benefits. for over 50% of their support;
  • Child's disability occurred before turning age 21 (or age 23 if enrolled as a full-time student); and
  • Child isn't married.

The sponsor’s Service determines the child's eligibility, not TRICARE. For questions, contact the sponsor's Service.
