Reporting other health insurance (West Region)

10/19/2026

If you have any health insurance other than TRICARE, it’s called . OHI can be through your employer or a private insurance program. It’s important to keep your OHI updated.

Please don’t report OHI if you don’t have any and TRICARE is your primary health coverage.

TRICARE pays before:

  • Medicaid
  • TRICARE supplements
  • State victims of crime compensation programs
  • Other federal government programs identified by the Director of the Defense Health Agency (for example, Indian Health Service)

Keep your information updated

  • If TRICARE gets your claim before your OHI processes it, TRICARE will deny it.
  • If your other plan doesn’t cover the particular service at all and you think TRICARE might cover it, file a claim with TRICARE.
  • If TRICARE pays first and then discovers you had OHI, TRICARE will take back any payments made. Your OHI always pays first.

Keep your doctor and the TRICARE West Region updated on OHI. They can coordinate your benefits and ensure your claims are paid quickly.
