Join Sept. 17 Chat with TRICARE About Flu Prevention
Do you want to learn more about ways you can prepare for flu season? Not sure whether you should get the seasonal influenza vaccine? Here’s your chance to connect with the experts and get your questions answered. Join TRICARE on Thursday, Sept. 17 at 3 p.m. ET for a Q&A session on how you can protect yourself—and your family—from the flu. You can join the live session on the TRICARE Facebook page.
“Vaccines can prevent serious illnesses in both children and adults,” said U.S. Air Force Lt. Col. (Dr.) Ruth Brenner, deputy chief of the Immunization Healthcare Division at the Defense Health Agency. “An annual flu vaccination is the best way to reduce influenza illnesses, doctors’ visits, missed attendance at work or school, and prevent flu-related hospitalizations.”
You can expect answers to a number of your questions, including who should and shouldn’t get the flu vaccine, how and where you can get it using your TRICARE benefit, and why it’s important during the COVID-19 pandemic.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the flu season is most common during the fall and winter. With COVID-19 still a concern, social distancing, face masks, and healthy habits will continue to be important as the weather cools down.
“The flu season starts in the fall, so it’s critical that beneficiaries take the necessary steps to protect their health now,” Brenner added.
During the Facebook Q&A, remember to follow the rules of engagement:
- Don’t post any additional personally identifiable information (Note that the name from your Facebook profile will be visible if you choose to comment).
- Don’t refer to any specific health condition.
- Don’t use names of specific individuals.
No registration is required. To attend, all you have to do is visit the TRICARE Facebook page to post your question. Tune in Thursday, Sept. 17 at 3 p.m. ET to get your flu-related questions answered.
