Gynecomastia is an abnormal enlargement of the male mammary glands. TRICARE covers medically necessaryTo be medically necessary means it is appropriate, reasonable, and adequate for your condition. medical, diagnostic, and surgical treatment.

Coverage criteria for surgical interventions may include, but isn’t limited to:

  • Severe gynecomastia (enlargement has not resolved after one year)
  • Fibrous tissue stroma exists
  • Breast pain

TRICARE doesn’t cover surgical treatment performed purely for psychological reasons.
