The Business Office of the Department of Research Programs provides technology transfer, funding, and grant-writing services to research investigators. We also work with the Office of the Comptroller. For help with our services, please contact the relevant staff identified below.
Funding and Grant Writing
The department offers intramural grants to support research by investigators in the Graduate Medical Education program. Extramural grants draw on sources outside of Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. We can help researchers apply for grants, but also encourage using our foundation partners to pursue opportunities.
The Business Office offers grant writing to all research investigators at the medical center. Our staff can also help investigators locate funding opportunities, interpret funder guidelines, submit grants, and administer awards. In addition, we can review final submission packages to ensure compliance with guidelines. To learn more, please contact the grant writer at 301-295-8292.
For legal questions related to research, please contact our research attorney at (301) 400-3529.
Technology Transfer The Business Office is the focal point for technology transfer within the Defense Health Agency's National Capital Region Medical Directorate. Our technology transfer program does two main jobs:
- Negotiating technology transfer agreements
- Helping secure intellectual property rights for inventions made under these agreements or by employees
The Business Office works with principal investigators to identify the need for and the best type of agreement. Collaborating on research with a partner outside of Walter Reed Bethesda? You may need a formal agreement form. Also, the Business Office handles intellectual property made under technology transfer agreements or made by DHA employees. Please alert us to such inventions by requesting for the Invention Disclosure Form and Patent Rights Questionnaire form. For details, please contact the chief of the Business Office at 301-295-2813.
The Business Office serves as a liaison with the Office of the Comptroller. Our staff processes and monitors agreements. We work with management to define goals and map program initiatives, and act as liaison with the Office of the Comptroller to determine research-related costs.
