Getting Care During COVID-19

You have options on how you can get care. How you get care depends on which TRICARE health plan you use.

If you Then
Have been exposed to COVID-19.

Contact:

Have COVID-19 symptoms.
Have been diagnosed with COVID-19.
Have Long COVID 

TRICARE covers services that are medically necessaryTo be medically necessary means it is appropriate, reasonable, and adequate for your condition. and considered proven.

Use Medicare and TRICARE For Life, and you need to be tested.  
  • Contact your provider to see if you need a COVID-19 test. Medicare covers the lab tests for COVID-19. You pay no costs.
  • TRICARE acts as second payer for Medicare, for services covered by both Medicare and TRICARE.
Need telemental health services or access to telemedicine.  
  • Contact your TRICARE-authorized providerAn authorized provider is any individual, institution/organization, or supplier that is licensed by a state, accredited by national organization, or meets other standards of the medical community, and is certified to provide benefits under TRICARE. There are two types of TRICARE-authorized providers: Network and Non-Network. DS to make sure they offer the service you need
  • Copayments and cost-sharing may apply, depending on which TRICARE health plan you use
Need an elective surgery at a military hospital or clinic.
Need care at a military hospital or clinic or Dental Treatment Facility (DTF).
 
  • Schedule your appointment as needed.
  • Military hospitals and clinics and DTFs may provide routine appointments and exams, if available.
Need to get covered COVID-19 oral antivirals. 
  • TRICARE covers paxlovid and molnupiravir for the treatment of mild-to-moderate cases of COVID-19 if you:
    • Test positive for COVID-19
    • Are at high-risk for progression to severe COVID-19 symptoms
  • You must have an order from a TRICARE-authorized provider.
  • You can get these drugs at no cost from:
  • Go to your nearest Test to Treat location to get tested, receive a prescription, and fill your prescription. If you tested positive during an at-home test, bring your results to the Test to Treat site to receive treatment.

There are no costs for the COVID-19 vaccines or boosters. But there may be a cost based on your health plan for an office visit with a provider, or if you require follow-on care. >>Learn more
