Overview

TRICARE Open Season 

The 2018 TRICARE Open Season is closed.

Beginning Jan. 1, 2019, you’ll only be able to enroll in or make changes to your TRICARE Prime or TRICARE Select plan during the next TRICARE Open Season (Fall 2019) or after a Qualifying Life Event.

TRICARE Qualifying Life Events A TRICARE Qualifying Life Event (QLE) is a certain change in your life, such as marriage, birth of a child, or retirement from active duty, which may mean different TRICARE options are available to you or your family members. A QLE opens a 90-day period for you and your family members to make eligible enrollment changes.

Costs

Every year, out-of-pocket costs for premium-based plans (TRICARE Reserve Select, TRICARE Retired Reserve, TRICARE Young Adult, and the Continued Health Care Benefit Program) adjust based on federal law and regulation, as well as the annual retiree cost of living adjustment (COLA).

Dental Coverage

The TRICARE Retiree Dental Program, (TRDP), provided by Delta Dental, ended Dec. 31, 2018. For claims information, visit the TRDP  Claims page.

If you were eligible for TRDP, you may be eligible for coverage through the Federal Employees Dental and Vision Insurance Program (FEDVIP), offered by the U.S. Office of Personnel Management.

You can enroll during the annual Federal Benefits Open Season (Fall 2019) or after experiencing a FEDVIP qualifying life event.

Vision Coverage

Retirees, their eligible family members, and active duty family members enrolled in a TRICARE health plan may qualify to purchase vision coverage through the Federal Employees Dental and Vision Insurance Program (FEDVIP), offered by the U.S. Office of Personnel Management.

Accessing Care

Urgent care is now easier to access. There is no limit to the number of urgent care visits most TRICARE Prime enrollees can make without a referral.
