On January 1, 2018, there were many changes to the TRICARE program.  TRICARE continues to offer several different health plans. Plan availability still depends on who you are and where you live.

Overview

Cost Changes 
  • Every year, out-of-pocket costs for premium-based plans (TRICARE Reserve Select, TRICARE Retired Reserve, TRICARE Young Adult, and the Continued Health Care Benefit Program) adjust based on federal law and regulation, as well as the annual retiree cost of living adjustment (COLA). The 2019 COLA won't be announced until mid-October 2018.
  • Visit the Compare Cost tool to view rates as they're available.

Dental and Vision Coverage

  • Certain Enrollees will become eligible for the Federal Employees Dental and Vision Insurance Program (FEDVIP) beginning in 2019.
  • The TRICARE Retiree Dental Program (TRDP) will continue to be the dental plan available to TRICARE beneficiaries until December 31, 2018. Eligible beneficiaries may enroll in TRDP until October 31, 2018, with coverage scheduled to end December 31, 2018.

Pharmacy Copays

Accessing Care

 

  • Urgent care is now easier to access. There is no limit to the number of urgent care visits most TRICARE Prime enrollees can make without a referral. Learn more about your plan's details on how to get urgent care.

Health Plans

 

Costs

  • Many cost shares (percentage of allowed amount) were replaced with copays (fixed amount).
  • You may need to pay an enrollment fee for TRICARE Select, depending on your plan and when you became eligible for TRICARE.

Enrollment

 

  • If you were eligible for TRICARE Standard and TRICARE Extra on December 31, 2017, you were automatically enrolled in TRICARE Select.

What’s Covered

  • TRICARE Select beneficiaries now have access to additional preventive care services without a copay when received from network providers.
MTM Pilot Program Ending
The Medication Therapy Management (MTM) Pilot will end on September 30, 2018. If you are currently participating, you do not need to take any action.
