TRICARE Prime Remote (TPR) provides health care to active duty service members in the South Region who meet the eligibility criteria specified in the TRICARE Operations Manual, Chapter 17, Section 1. TPR is specific to geographic location, and eligibility is based on residence and work (Unit) address. Permanently assigned active duty service members must live AND work more than 50 miles or approximately one hour's drive time from the nearest military treatment facility (MTF).
Exceptions to the Eligibility Criteria
Exceptions will only be granted if they meet the eligibility criteria in the TRICARE Operations Manual (TOM), Chapter 17, Section 1, paragraphs 2.3 through 2.4.
- Unit is in one region (South), but the service member lives in another Region (North or West)
- Unit and service member are located in one region (South), but closest PCM doctor is in another region (North or West)
- Geographic barriers or other unique situations exits (e.g. the drive time to the nearest MTF exceeds one hour).
TPR Waiver of Eligibility
Only active duty service members may request a determination of eligibility requirements for TPR enrollment. Service members and their Unit Commander may do one of the following if they believe that one or more of the exceptions to the eligibility criteria are met.
