Clinical Quality

The Clinical Quality Division develops and implements clinical policy for Military Health System (MHS) peacetime health care delivery. Personnel oversee and report on clinical quality processes for the MHS, both care delivered in military treatment facilities and care in civilian healthcare organizations purchased through health care support contracts. The staff advises senior policy makers on clinical quality matters and issues pertaining to development, acquisition, implementation, and operational oversight of managed care programs and contracts. The Clinical Quality Division shares responsibility with the TRICARE Regional Offices, Designated Provider Program Office and Overseas Program Office for over site of network quality.

Clinical Quality also provides support and subject matter expertise for the following programs that are managed by other entities:

  • Anesthesia Reporting and Monitoring Panel
  • Infection, Prevention and Control Panel
  • MHS Clinical Measures Steering Panel
  • National Surgical Quality Improvement Program

“On October 1, 2013, the Department of Defense established the Defense Health Agency (DHA) to manage the activities of the Military Health System. These activities include those previously managed by TRICARE Management Activity (TMA), which was disestablished on the same date.
