Defense Health Agency, Great Lakes

The Defense Health Agency–Great Lakes (formerly known as the Military Medical Support Office) (DHA-GL) assists with the coordination of medical care in the United States and District of Columbia for:

  • Active duty service members enrolled in TRICARE Prime Remote
  • Non-enrolled active duty service members not managed by a military hospital or clinic 
  • Reserve Component service members in remote areas with Service-approved line of duty (LOD) injuries, illnesses or diseases
  • Active duty service members enrolled in TRICARE Prime TRICARE Prime that qualify under the DoD/VA Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) for a Spinal Cord Injury (SCI), Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) or Blindness


  • Coordinates civilian health care services for remotely-located active duty service members
  • Provides pre-authorization for civilian line of duty (LOD) medical care
  • Works with unit representatives regarding LOD care for remotely-located service members
  • Provides authorization (pre-, concurrent and retro-) for VA medical care for active duty service members accepted under the DoD/VA MOA for diagnosis for SCI, TBI or blindness
  • Authorizes the payment of civilian medical claims
